According to CoinDesk, the Linux Foundation has officially announced the establishment of the x402 Foundation. The protocol was created and donated by Coinbase in May 2025 and has now been handed over to a formal governance structure, comprising 40 members. Core members include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Stripe, Ripple, Google, AWS, Cloudflare, Circle, as well as the Solana and Stellar foundations, among others.
