Analyst: Bitcoin Unified Sentiment Index Falls to -11, Market Sentiment Turns Bearish

Odaily reports: Crypto analyst Darkfost posted that the Bitcoin Unified Sentiment Index has fallen back into negative territory, currently at -11 and continuing to decline, indicating that the previous extreme greed phase has passed and bearish market sentiment is beginning to accumulate.Darkfost noted that the current index reading remains within a relatively neutral range but clearly reflects deteriorating sentiment in the Bitcoin market. The index fluctuates between -100 and +100, combining the Fear and Greed Index and CoinGecko sentiment survey data, and is standardized based on a rolling one-year window.

City University Survey: Willingness of Hong Kong Residents to Use AI Rises to 77.5%, Over Half Still Fear Job Displacement

According to a PR Newswire report, the City University of Hong Kong has published results from a survey on the social impact of artificial intelligence, revealing that Hong Kong residents' willingness to adopt AI rose from 67.4% in early 2025 to 77.5% by mid-2026, an increase of 10.1 percentage points. However, 53.7% of respondents remain highly concerned about their jobs being replaced by AI, a figure consistent with the previous year. Led by Huang Yihui, Chair Professor at the Department of Media and Communication, CityU, the research team conducted three rounds of longitudinal online surveys between February and April 2025, December 2025 and February 2026, and May and July 2026. The latest round surveyed 1,362 Hong Kong citizens aged 20 and older, analyzing a longitudinal cohort of 398 participants who completed all three waves. Findings show that 61.3% of respondents aged 20 to 34 expressed concern over job security, 60.6% of bachelor's degree holders feared AI displacement, and 56.6% of middle-income earners making HK$30,000 to HK$60,000 monthly shared similar worries. Regarding healthcare applications, while most residents welcome AI support for personal health management, clinical diagnostic decisions continue to rely primarily on physicians.

US SEC Token Safe Harbor Proposal Warned of Lacking Regulatory Certainty, Exchanges Fear Future Liability

Odaily reports: Crypto wallet backup company Vault12 submitted a comment letter to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday, stating that the SEC's proposed token safe harbor framework fails to adequately address centralized exchanges' listing concerns, and trading platforms still worry they may face retroactive challenges from the SEC regarding the legal status of tokens in the future.Vault12 raised $17.45 million from 38 investors in 2018 through a future token agreement. Its issued Vault Guardian Token (VGT) has not yet been listed on any centralized exchange. The project has fulfilled or formally abandoned all commitments in its white paper, but exchanges it previously approached still require confirmation that the SEC will not determine in the future that VGT remains subject to the original investment contract. The SEC's "Regulation Crypto Assets" proposal introduced in August this year aims to provide exemptions for token fundraising and allow eligible projects to terminate the association between tokens and original investment contracts through a safe harbor mechanism. Vault12 recommends adding a 60-day objection period; if the SEC does not raise objections within the deadline, qualifying filings should have final effect on the agency, except in cases of fraud or material misrepresentation. Analysis: Bitcoin Drops Below $77,000 as Geopolitical Conflicts and Inflation Concerns Trigger Sell-Off

Bitcoin has fallen below the $77,000 mark, hitting a low of approximately $76,720. Analysts attribute the market decline primarily to multiple macroeconomic pressures, including the renewed escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, rising inflation concerns, and increased risk aversion across risk assets. Former US President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to Iran on social media, intensifying geopolitical uncertainty.Meanwhile, rising oil prices have further elevated inflation expectations, with Brent crude climbing to around $111 and WTI rising above $107. This has sparked concerns that the Federal Reserve may maintain higher interest rates for a longer period. The current selling pressure is also compounded by factors such as rising US Treasury yields, a strengthening US dollar, and ETF outflows. Data shows that Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows of approximately $1 billion in the week ending May 17, ending six consecutive weeks of net inflows. In terms of market sentiment, the Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index has fallen back to 27, re-entering the "fear zone." Analysts believe that short-term trends will remain highly dependent on macroeconomic data and policy expectations. However, some institutions view the current correction as a "healthy digestion" period, suggesting the long-term structure remains unchanged. (The Block)

Analysis: This BTC rebound is driven by “liquidity” rather than a fundamental strengthening of the trend.

According to The Block, Bitcoin rose approximately 6% this week, briefly reaching $76,300—the highest level in nearly two months—yet the Crypto Fear & Greed Index remains at 21 (“Extreme Fear”). Multiple institutional analysts characterize this rally as “liquidity-driven” rather than a structural strengthening. Glassnode notes that while spot demand and ETF inflows have improved, the recovery lacks depth, institutional participation remains cautious, and options market positioning continues to favor downside protection. Bitfinex attributes this price increase primarily to concentrated buying by “Strategists” (who purchased 13,927 BTC last week), rather than an organic rebound in demand. Analysts broadly view $75,000 as a critical support level; if structural buying wanes and this level fails to hold, prices could retreat to the $70,000–$71,000 range. On the macro front, the Federal Reserve’s policy trajectory and the June FOMC meeting are seen as the next key risk catalysts.
