According to CCTV News, on May 30 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump stated during an interview broadcast that evening on Fox News that the United States and Iran are now close to reaching a “very good agreement.” Trump also said in the interview that “we will get a better deal”—one that “should have happened faster.” At the same time, Trump noted that if no agreement is reached, he would ask the “Department of War” (i.e., the U.S. Department of Defense) to intervene. He added, “If I don’t get what I want, we’ll end it another way.” Trump further stated that by signing such an agreement, the U.S. could ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and guarantee that Iran possesses no nuclear weapons. When discussing the potential agreement with Iran, Trump emphasized that he is not in a rush: “If you’re in a rush, you can’t make a good deal.”
