QuadrigaCX

QuadrigaCX was one of Canada's largest cryptocurrency exchanges. Its CEO and founder, Gerald William Cotten, died in 2018 after travelling to India. Up to US$190 million in cryptocurrency owed to 115,000 customers was missing or could not be accessed, as only Cotten held the password to the off-line cold wallets. In 2019, the exchange ceased operations and the company filed for bankruptcy.
