The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a distributed, open, and extensible naming system based on the Ethereum blockchain. Its purpose is to map human-readable names like 'alice.eth' to machine-readable identifiers such as Ethereum addresses, other cryptocurrency addresses, content hashes, and metadata. ENS also supports 'reverse resolution', enabling Ethereum addresses to be associated with metadata such as canonical names or interface descriptions. ENS has similar objectives to DNS, the Internet's Domain Name Service, but has a significantly different architecture due to the capabilities and constraints provided by the Ethereum blockchain. Like DNS, ENS operates on a system of dot-separated hierarchical names called domains, with the owner of a domain having full control over subdomains.

However, the DAO itself lacks a legal entity status, which prevents it from effectively participating in internet naming system governance, signing institutional cooperation agreements, hiring full-time employees, safeguarding trademark rights, or engaging in regulatory discussions. The establishment of the ENS Foundation aims to fill this gap. Going forward, the Foundation will be responsible for:1. Representing ENS in internet standards organizations such as ICANN, IETF, and W3C, to promote the recognition and management of the ".ens" top-level domain (TLD);2. Participating in policy discussions as a legal entity, communicating with regulators and government agencies;3. ENSv2 officially launches on Ethereum mainnet, existing .eth domains can voluntarily upgrade
ENSv2 has officially launched on Ethereum mainnet, introducing a hierarchical registry and a more granular permission model that supports communities and institutions in customizing subdomain issuance rules and managing authorization by partition. The new version also updates the domain resolution method and supports shared record links, while launching the ENS App for general users and ENS Explorer for developers. ENS stated that its ecosystem currently supports over 36 million domains, covering more than 600 applications; existing .eth domains do not need to be re-registered and can voluntarily upgrade to ENSv2 within the ENS App starting today.

The team will also switch to v2 resolution and transfer all retained v2 administrative privileges to the DAO timelock. An interval of several hours is anticipated between the proposal's execution and the full v2 launch. As of now, 6 wallets have cast 531,300 ENS, with approximately 100% in favor, but the quorum has not yet been reached. The proposal contains 15 actions, which will be executed all at once by an execution contract controlled by the DAO; if any single action fails, none of the actions will take effect. The previously approved pricing scheme will take effect after the proposal is executed, and the same applies to renewals of domains that have not been migrated. Some voters oppose raising the annual fee for domains of 5 characters or more from $5 to $8.

Once the upgrade is approved, the original ENS registrar will pause new domain registrations, while existing domain holders will still be able to renew.ENSv2 will introduce a more flexible domain management and permissions architecture. After domain record synchronization is complete, new .eth registrations will migrate to the upgraded system, and new registrations on both systems may be paused for several hours during the transition; existing holders will not need to migrate, and their domains will remain fully functional. ENS Labs plans to transfer the remaining administrative permissions of the upgraded contracts to the DAO.The proposal is currently still in draft stage and needs to enter the on-chain DAO voting process. Over $500,000 in Assets Stolen, Attackers Forge Uniswap-Related ENS Names to Execute Arbitrage Bot Scam
Odaily Report: According to on-chain detective Specter, the attackers behind this campaign provided so-called arbitrage bot tutorials and code through YouTube videos, and guided victims to use a counterfeit Remix development interface to compile and deploy contracts. The attackers registered ENS names containing "Uniswap" to disguise the related addresses as legitimate incoming fund sources from DeFi activity, leading victims to believe that the deployed arbitrage bot was profiting through Uniswap. After victims injected their own assets into the contracts, the funds were transferred away by the attackers. The attackers currently appear to still be active and hold a substantial portion of the stolen funds in two addresses.
