Ethereum EIP-8450 Proposal Updated, Aims to Introduce Quantum-Resistant Validator Public Key Registration Mechanism

Odaily Report: The EIP-8450 proposal has been updated, aiming to introduce a quantum-resistant public key registration mechanism for Ethereum validators, adopting hash-based cryptographic schemes, including leanXMSS keys and VRF tree roots. The update specifies that BLS signing keys authorize the registration and replacement of quantum-resistant keys, and sets a replacement delay of at least one Epoch along with an anti-replay mechanism; the proposal is currently still in the Draft stage and has not yet been deployed.

US September PPI rose 6.3% year-over-year, hitting a new high since December 2022

Odaily reports: The U.S. September Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 6.3% year-over-year and 1.3% month-over-month, with the year-over-year growth rate reaching its highest since December 2022 and the month-over-month increase being the largest since March 2022. Energy costs accelerated, with gasoline producer prices rising 20.3% month-over-month.According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data, final demand goods prices rose 2.6% month-over-month, with final demand energy prices up 10.8%; final demand services prices rose 0.8%, with transportation and warehousing costs up 3.4%. During the same period, U.S. September retail sales grew 0.8% month-over-month, below August's 1.3%.Polymarket data shows that traders estimate a 72% probability that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged at its October meeting, and a 28% probability of a 25 basis point rate hike, with related market trading volume approaching $41.5 million. In September, the Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate to a range of 3.75% to 4%.After the report was released, Bitcoin's price briefly fell below $81,000 and touched an intraday low of $80,154 on Bitstamp; it fell 3.4% on the day and 4% over the past two weeks. Ethereum researchers propose a quantum-resistant deposit contract scheme, aiming to phase out BLS validator signatures.

According to CoinDesk, Ethereum researchers have proposed an early draft to rebuild the validator deposit contract, enabling support for new cryptographic signature schemes with quantum resistance, and providing a mechanism for ceasing to accept existing BLS signature deposits in the future.

Sonic Unveils Quantum-Resistant Roadmap: Upgradable by Simply Replacing Signature Algorithms

Odaily News: Sonic detailed its technical path for the "post-quantum era," pointing out that most current PoS public chains rely on elliptic curve signatures (such as ECDSA, Ed25519), which face the risk of being cracked once quantum computing (e.g., Shor's algorithm) matures.Sonic stated that the industry is exploring quantum-resistant cryptographic solutions (such as hash-based XMSS, SPHINCS+, and lattice-based Dilithium, Falcon). However, mainstream consensus mechanisms generally rely on BLS aggregate signatures and threshold signatures, and migrating to a quantum-resistant system will face challenges in performance, bandwidth, and architectural restructuring. In contrast, Sonic's SonicCS consensus protocol does not rely on aggregate signatures or global randomness. It uses single-node signatures and hash functions to construct a DAG structure. Therefore, when switching to quantum-resistant cryptography, only the signature algorithm needs to be replaced to complete the upgrade, without adjusting the consensus logic or network structure.Sonic emphasized that this design will significantly reduce the complexity of future migration to quantum-resistant security, giving the network stronger adaptability when quantum computing threats emerge.
