Fairshake-affiliated PAC spends over $986,000 in Michigan Democratic primary race

documents filed by Protect Progress PAC, an affiliate of the crypto-focused political action committee Fairshake, with the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) show that as of Tuesday, it has spent over $986,000 to support current Democratic Representative Shri Thanedar in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District and oppose challenger Donavan McKinney. The expenditure occurs two weeks before the August 4 Democratic primary, which will determine the party’s nominee for the November general election. Protect Progress PAC spent approximately $1 million in 2024 to support Thanedar, who received 54.9% of the vote in that year’s Democratic primary and went on to secure 68.6% of the vote in the November general election. Fairshake and its affiliated organizations report having a $191 million war chest to influence key elections. Other crypto industry-related political action committees include the Fellowship, backed by Cantor Fitzgerald and Anchorage Digital, and the Blockchain Leadership Fund, supported by Anchorage and Chainlink Labs. Cardano wallet SecondFi announces shutdown after hack attack

According to CoinDesk, the Cardano wallet SecondFi was attacked due to a vulnerability in its transaction signing software. A total of 16.1 million ADA (approximately $2.4 million) across 374 wallets was stolen, and the platform has announced permanent closure. The vulnerability allowed attackers to derive private keys from transaction data visible on-chain. The Cardano network itself was not affected, nor were hardware wallet users. An investigation by Groom Lake, a blockchain intelligence company hired by EMURGO, revealed that the primary attackers were sophisticated and well-funded. Some indications point to North Korea's Lazarus Group, but this has not yet been officially confirmed. SecondFi plans to release a wallet export tool in early August and launch a zero-knowledge recovery portal later in the month. EMURGO has established an asset recovery wallet, with the specific distribution time to be determined.

SecondFi to Gradually Shut Down Wallet Services After $2.6 Million ADA Theft

Cardano ecosystem wallet SecondFi announced that due to a cryptographic defect in its wallet software, approximately 16.1 million ADA (worth around $2.6 million) were stolen. The platform will gradually shut down the SecondFi and Yoroi wallet services. This incident has affected 374 wallets. SecondFi stated that an independent investigation by blockchain intelligence agency Groom Lake identified the attackers as a sophisticated external actor and found indicators potentially linked to North Korea's Lazarus Group, though attribution has not yet been confirmed. SecondFi is developing a recovery tool based on zero-knowledge proofs to help affected users recover assets while limiting the information that needs to be shared. The tool is still being tested and will undergo third-party audits before its planned release in August. SecondFi is also preparing a wallet export feature to allow users to migrate their assets to other services. The platform has not announced a direct compensation plan, nor has it indicated whether it will use its own funds to compensate users.

: On the prediction market platform Polymarket, the probability of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait closing before August 31 has risen to 21%, up from a low of 11% on Monday morning. The probability of a closure before September 30 once rose to 26%. The Yemeni Houthi group, Ansar Allah, has announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, stating that the operation is based on the principle of "an eye for an eye" and aims to disrupt the flow of Saudi crude oil exports. The relevant passage handles the transit of over 4.5 million barrels of crude oil. The outcome of this prediction contract will be determined based on maritime trade flow data released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) platform, PortWatch. CLARITY Act could remove Section 604 or expose non-custodial developers to Bank Secrecy Act obligations

one year after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Clarity for Digital Assets Act (CLARITY Act), the bill remains stalled in the Senate, facing opposition from the banking industry and partisan divisions. Supporters anticipate a potential vote before the Senate's August recess. Industry organizations Coin Center and the Blockchain Association have identified Section 604 as a key provision for protecting open-source innovation. This provision aims to prevent non-custodial blockchain developers, node operators, and validators from being classified as federal money transmitters. Stefan Muehlbauer, Head of U.S. Government Affairs at CertiK, stated that removing Section 604 could conflate software development with financial services, subjecting developers to the Bank Secrecy Act and triggering First Amendment-related constitutional challenges. Iana Dimitrova, CEO of Openpayd, noted that the expanding use of stablecoins for cross-border value transfer has made the need for a federal regulatory framework more apparent. The bill also addresses accounting standards, acknowledges the rescission of SEC Staff Accounting Bulletin SAB 121, and prohibits the SEC from reimposing equivalent crypto custody accounting requirements without a full notice-and-comment rulemaking process. Mark Zalan, CEO of Gomining, pointed out that Bitcoin still faces regulatory gaps, such as tax treatment.

The CLARITY Act has not yet been scheduled for a Senate vote, with only 14 working days remaining before the August recess.

Bitcoin News posted on X, citing @EleanorTerrett, that the CLARITY Act has not yet been scheduled for a full Senate vote, nor has its legislative text been updated, with multiple key provisions still under negotiation. Lawmakers will enter the August recess after 14 working days. Currently, the biggest point of contention remains ethical issues, as legislators continue to negotiate rules to prevent government officials from profiting from digital assets. Some are still hoping for a vote this week, but many on Capitol Hill believe the window of opportunity is narrowing. If the bill is not brought before the full Senate next week, its chances of passing before the August recess will significantly diminish.

Clarity Act Senate Vote Pending, White House Ethics Provision Negotiations Deadlocked

As reported by Crypto in America, with only 14 working days remaining before the Senate's August recess, the U.S. crypto market structure bill, the "Clarity Act," still has no confirmed voting date, the latest bill text has not been released, and negotiations on core disputes remain deadlocked. The core sticking point lies in the ethics provisions—relevant clauses aimed at preventing government officials from profiting from digital assets have not yet received White House backing. Last Thursday, Trump held a closed-door meeting in the Oval Office with Senators Cynthia Lummis, Bernie Moreno, the White House Chief of Staff, and others, but as of now, the White House has not clearly stated which ethical parameters it supports. Other major points of contention include: • Whether the BRCA (Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act) can be retained, as it is currently publicly opposed by the National Sheriffs' Association, which calls cryptocurrency the "cartel's currency of choice" • Certain provisions of the Agriculture Committee, involving conflict of interest issues such as crypto exchange vertical integration, related-party transactions, and state law preemption • Whether the support votes of Democratic Senators Warner and Cortez Masto can be secured, as their stance depends on whether the bill adequately addresses law enforcement's concerns regarding illicit finance The prevailing view on Capitol Hill is that negotiating parties must complete the groundwork for procedural votes before this weekend, otherwise the bill will miss the final window of opportunity before the August recess.

Michael Saylor: Publishes 110-Point Article Opposing Bitcoin BIP-110

Odaily Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor published a 110-point article opposing the proposed Bitcoin soft fork BIP-110. BIP-110 plans to tighten Bitcoin's consensus rules within about a year, restricting the technology used for embedding arbitrary data, targeting non-financial data such as Ordinals and inscriptions. Michael Saylor stated that BIP-110 would invalidate currently valid transactions that pay fees through consensus changes, and claimed that Bitcoin cannot differentiate data intent. He believes that including a specific use case within the consensus layer restrictions would set a governance precedent. While the specific restrictions would expire in about a year, the precedent would not disappear. He also opposed the proposal's activation design, stating it lowers the miner signaling threshold from the 95% used in earlier soft forks to 55%, and removes the option that typically allows proposals to naturally expire. Data from a proposal monitoring dashboard shows current signaling support is below 1%. The mandatory signaling window for BIP-110 is scheduled to open in August, with a target activation date around September 1st. Michael Saylor's stance aligns with Blockstream CEO Adam Back, Casa's Jameson Lopp, and Bitcoin proponent Samson Mow. Opponents include developer Luke Dashjr and the Bitcoin Knots camp.

Venice Upgrade Tokenomics: API Revenue to Trigger VVV Buyback and Burn, DIEM Supply Raised to 40,000

Odaily AI infrastructure project Venice has announced an update to its VVV and DIEM tokenomics model, introducing a new programmatic buyback and burn mechanism and gradually increasing the DIEM supply target from 38,000 to 40,000 tokens.Venice stated that VVV is its core ecosystem asset, an ERC-20 token issued on the Base chain. After users purchase and stake VVV, they can earn rewards, unlock Venice Pro benefits, and use it to mint DIEM. Previously, a portion of platform revenue was used for market buybacks and the burning of VVV.This update first expands the sources for VVV burning. Previously, Venice had already implemented an automated VVV buyback and burn mechanism through Pro, Pro+, and Max subscription revenues. Now, this mechanism will cover API credit purchases: for every $100 worth of Venice API credits purchased by a user, $5 will be used to buy and burn VVV. This process will be executed automatically. As API usage grows, more VVV will be removed from circulation.Venice stated that the new API burn mechanism will be tracked separately on the official burn page, displayed distinctly from the burn records generated by subscription revenue.Concurrently, Venice will adjust the DIEM supply target. DIEM is the second-generation token in the Venice ecosystem, used to provide access to AI model credits. Each DIEM corresponds to $1 worth of daily Venice AI credits.DIEM can only be minted by staking and locking VVV. Users can use or sell these AI credits. Previously, the DIEM supply target was long fixed at 38,000 tokens.Starting August 3rd, this target will be gradually raised to 40,000 tokens, adding up to 2,000 new DIEM minting capacity to the market. As each newly minted DIEM requires locking more staked VVV, this will correspondingly increase the daily supply of AI API credits.Venice indicated that as the DIEM supply approaches the target, the minting cost (Mint Rate) will gradually increase. This increase in the supply target will provide users with greater minting capacity while maintaining the ecosystem's supply-demand mechanism. This adjustment shows that Venice is strengthening its token economic flywheel through a path of "AI service demand growth → increased API revenue → continuous VVV burning → ecosystem value capture."

Cardano will transfer control of its core software to external teams starting in August

: Cardano development company Input Output will transfer control of key blockchain components such as the Haskell node, Plutus platform, and Daedalus wallet to external professional teams starting in August, as part of a multi-year decentralization advancement plan. Independent companies such as Se7en Labs and Teragone will be responsible for certain core infrastructures. At least three versions of Cardano will be maintained in Haskell, Rust, and Go languages, under community supervision and formal specification management. Cardano currently faces relatively weak network activity and a significant decline in the price of its ADA token. Founder Charles Hoskinson characterizes this restructuring and related ecosystem setbacks as necessary "growing pains" in the process of moving towards full decentralization.

US Crypto Legislation Reaches Critical Juncture, Trump Conflict of Interest Ethics Clauses Become Biggest Obstacle

According to The Block, U.S. "Clarity Act" crypto legislation has entered a critical phase, with Representative William Timmons stating, "Legislation will definitely be completed; this is one of the president's priorities and also a bipartisan consensus." Senate Majority Leader John Thune hopes to complete the Senate vote before the recess on August 7, but even if passed by the Senate, the bill still needs to return to the House of Representatives for deliberation, and the overall timeline may extend into the coming months. The current main point of contention lies in the ethics clauses regarding how to restrict federal officials, such as the President, Vice President, and members of Congress, from benefiting from digital assets during their term. Trump, Republican Senators Bernie Moreno and Cynthia Lummis, along with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, held a meeting on Thursday afternoon regarding the ethics clauses, seeking Trump's endorsement. Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego stated that if the ethics clauses do not meet standards, Democrats will not vote in support. Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger is cautiously optimistic about the bill's prospects but warned that if prediction market-related amendments are included, they will become a "poison pill" and should be addressed through separate legislation.
