Trump Crypto Interest Controversy Weighs on CLARITY Act, Dimming Prospects for Passage This Year

the long-awaited digital asset regulatory bill, the CLARITY Act, has hit a snag in its advancement. Senate Majority Leader John Thune stated that the Senate is not expected to pass the bill before the August recess. The CLARITY Act aims to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets, promoting the integration of blockchain and crypto assets into the mainstream financial system. Previously, the bill had undergone multiple rounds of negotiations between the crypto industry and opposing forces, such as the banking sector, and was once considered close to passage. However, recent controversy surrounding conflicts of interest related to President Donald Trump and his family's involvement in crypto projects has emerged as a new obstacle. Democrats are demanding the inclusion of ethical clauses in the bill that would restrict government officials from profiting from crypto transactions, a stance Republicans have previously opposed. Prediction market data indicates that the probability of the CLARITY Act passing this year has significantly declined. Polymarket data shows that as of Friday, the probability stood at approximately 37%, well below the over 80% level seen earlier this spring.Crypto policy organizations and industry insiders believe the current delay is largely influenced by the political dynamics of the U.S. midterm elections. Ron Hammond, Head of Policy and Advocacy at Wintermute, stated that the votes to support the bill may still exist, but "election politics are louder." He suggested that a window for advancing the bill could still emerge after the November elections.Analysts point out that if Congress needs to prioritize major issues such as government funding and national defense before the end of its current term, the CLARITY Act could be further marginalized. As the U.S. political landscape may shift following the midterm elections, the outlook for crypto regulatory legislation remains highly uncertain. (Fortune)

Polymarket probability of a "two-week ceasefire" between the US and Iran by August 31 is currently 51%, down 3% in a week

The PPP Prediction Market Tool monitors that in the Polymarket prediction event "When will the US and Iran achieve a two-week ceasefire," the probability for August 14 is currently 34%, down 1% in a week; the probability for August 31 is currently 51%, down 3% in a week.According to the resolution rules, if at any point between the market creation and the specified deadline (Eastern Time 23:59), there begins a consecutive 14-day period during which the US does not conduct qualifying military actions against Iran, the market will resolve to "Yes." Qualifying military actions refer to airstrikes or surface-to-surface missile attacks initiated by the US that directly strike targets within Iranian territory. It is reported that the US military has conducted strikes against Iranian military targets for the 13th consecutive night, and Iran has rejected the ceasefire proposal put forward by Trump. Neither side has yet signaled de-escalation in the short term. However, according to sources close to the matter, Trump has become increasingly frustrated with the protracted war, while his advisors worry that the conflict has driven up prices, hurt approval ratings, and resulted in the deaths of over a dozen US soldiers. This continues to drain the political capital of the Trump administration and could further impact the Republican Party's prospects in the midterm elections.Join the PPP Signal Push Community, stay ahead and seize the opportunity.

Taiko: Attack Resulted from Off-Chain Signature Key Leak and Verification Process Gap

Odaily News: Ethereum Layer 2 network Taiko released a post-mortem of the June 21 security incident, stating that the attack resulted from an off-chain signature key leak and a verification process gap. The attacker exploited these to forge proofs and bypass the Prover whitelist, rather than breaking ZK cryptography or smart contracts. The attacker stole approximately $1.75 million from cross-chain bridges and Vaults, but over $11 million in assets were protected, and no user funds were lost. Taiko has fixed the vulnerability, restored the pre-attack state, and resumed operation on July 2; an OpenZeppelin audit confirmed the fixes with no high, medium, or low-risk vulnerabilities identified. The official statement also indicated that the Unzen upgrade, scheduled for August 6, will require ZK proofs for every block to further enhance network security.

Vanar migrates to Base, total VANRY supply increases from 2.4 billion to 10 billion

Odaily AI infrastructure project Vanar has announced its migration to the Base network. The positioning of the VANRY token will shift from supporting blockchain infrastructure to coordinating and incentivizing the AI Organizations ecosystem.Vanar stated that it is building an AI Organization economic system, enabling functions such as product development, service delivery, order processing, USDC settlement, and reputation recording through organization-level AI agents. The team believes that the core bottleneck for future AI development will shift from model capabilities to identity, trust, memory, and organizational structure.Regarding the token migration, existing VANRY holders will migrate at a 1:1 ratio, meaning their holdings will not change. However, the total supply will increase from 2.4 billion to 10 billion tokens to support incentives for the AI Organizations ecosystem, developers, partners, and infrastructure development.According to the official statement, 62% of the total supply will remain locked initially. Newly allocated tokens will adopt a lock-up and 60-month linear release mechanism, with the full release cycle expected to be 5 years.Additionally, Vanar will terminate the validator node staking mechanism on Vanarchain and integrate its infrastructure into the Base network. The team plans to launch the Vanar Genesis event on August 3rd, where the first batch of AI Organizations will go live, alongside a reward pool of 100 million VANRY tokens to incentivize high-performing ecosystem projects.

Cardano wallet SecondFi announces shutdown after hack attack

According to CoinDesk, the Cardano wallet SecondFi was attacked due to a vulnerability in its transaction signing software. A total of 16.1 million ADA (approximately $2.4 million) across 374 wallets was stolen, and the platform has announced permanent closure. The vulnerability allowed attackers to derive private keys from transaction data visible on-chain. The Cardano network itself was not affected, nor were hardware wallet users. An investigation by Groom Lake, a blockchain intelligence company hired by EMURGO, revealed that the primary attackers were sophisticated and well-funded. Some indications point to North Korea's Lazarus Group, but this has not yet been officially confirmed. SecondFi plans to release a wallet export tool in early August and launch a zero-knowledge recovery portal later in the month. EMURGO has established an asset recovery wallet, with the specific distribution time to be determined.

SecondFi to Gradually Shut Down Wallet Services After $2.6 Million ADA Theft

Cardano ecosystem wallet SecondFi announced that due to a cryptographic defect in its wallet software, approximately 16.1 million ADA (worth around $2.6 million) were stolen. The platform will gradually shut down the SecondFi and Yoroi wallet services. This incident has affected 374 wallets. SecondFi stated that an independent investigation by blockchain intelligence agency Groom Lake identified the attackers as a sophisticated external actor and found indicators potentially linked to North Korea's Lazarus Group, though attribution has not yet been confirmed. SecondFi is developing a recovery tool based on zero-knowledge proofs to help affected users recover assets while limiting the information that needs to be shared. The tool is still being tested and will undergo third-party audits before its planned release in August. SecondFi is also preparing a wallet export feature to allow users to migrate their assets to other services. The platform has not announced a direct compensation plan, nor has it indicated whether it will use its own funds to compensate users.

CLARITY Act could remove Section 604 or expose non-custodial developers to Bank Secrecy Act obligations

one year after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Clarity for Digital Assets Act (CLARITY Act), the bill remains stalled in the Senate, facing opposition from the banking industry and partisan divisions. Supporters anticipate a potential vote before the Senate's August recess. Industry organizations Coin Center and the Blockchain Association have identified Section 604 as a key provision for protecting open-source innovation. This provision aims to prevent non-custodial blockchain developers, node operators, and validators from being classified as federal money transmitters. Stefan Muehlbauer, Head of U.S. Government Affairs at CertiK, stated that removing Section 604 could conflate software development with financial services, subjecting developers to the Bank Secrecy Act and triggering First Amendment-related constitutional challenges. Iana Dimitrova, CEO of Openpayd, noted that the expanding use of stablecoins for cross-border value transfer has made the need for a federal regulatory framework more apparent. The bill also addresses accounting standards, acknowledges the rescission of SEC Staff Accounting Bulletin SAB 121, and prohibits the SEC from reimposing equivalent crypto custody accounting requirements without a full notice-and-comment rulemaking process. Mark Zalan, CEO of Gomining, pointed out that Bitcoin still faces regulatory gaps, such as tax treatment.
