Story Upgrades to DATA Foundation, Pivoting to AI Training Data Infrastructure

blockchain IP project Story Protocol has announced its transition into the DATA Foundation, shifting its core focus from general intellectual property (IP) infrastructure to an AI training data network. This move addresses the rapidly growing demand for "licensable and traceable training data."Alongside this transition, the project launched a new product called Trace. As an on-chain AI training data registration and auditing system, Trace generates verifiable on-chain "contribution certificates" for each piece of data. These certificates record the source, licensing terms, user consent, and payment information, helping AI model trainers confirm data compliance and traceability. (The Block)

Depthfirst claims its code vulnerability detection has surpassed Anthropic's latest model Mythos

Odaily AI security startup Depthfirst has announced that its self-developed AI model outperforms Anthropic’s latest model, Mythos, in code vulnerability detection. It has discovered more critical security vulnerabilities at approximately one-tenth the cost, drawing attention from the cybersecurity industry.According to the company, a month before the launch of Mythos, it had previously claimed to have found a large number of severe vulnerabilities in key internet infrastructure code. Depthfirst now says its model has further identified multiple high-risk vulnerabilities that Mythos missed, all at a lower cost (approximately $1,000 compared to $10,000).Depthfirst CEO Qasim Mithani stated that the company has improved vulnerability detection efficiency through a “single-task-optimized AI model,” significantly reducing the cost of security analysis while enhancing coverage depth. The company completed $80 million in funding in March this year, achieving a valuation of $580 million. Alongside this, it launched the “Open Defense Initiative,” providing $5 million worth of AI detection credits to open-source developers and critical infrastructure projects for vulnerability scanning and security audits. Coinbase CEO: Optimizing AI Costs Through Better Default Models and Routing Mechanisms, Achieving Token Usage Growth Alongside Declining Expenditure

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong posted on X, stating that internally at Coinbase, the team is exploring how to keep AI spending stable while token usage grows exponentially, not through usage limits or constant cost reminders, but through better system design. He noted that Coinbase is optimizing AI usage costs primarily from five aspects. First is "Better Default Models," allowing engineers to freely choose models, but the system defaults towards lower-cost open-source weight models (such as GLM 5.2, Kimi 2.7), while still encouraging the selection of suitable models for different tasks. Second is "Smart Routing," using an automated system to allocate the optimal model based on task type, cache hit rate, and model pricing, rather than manual selection.Third is "Cache Optimization," significantly reducing repetitive computation costs by improving the cache hit rate. Fourth is "Streamlined Context," reducing ineffective token consumption during task switching and limiting unnecessary tool calls. Fifth is "Visual Transparency," giving engineers clear visibility into their own usage, without restricting usage through limitations.Brian Armstrong stated that the goal is not to suppress AI usage, but to build infrastructure capable of supporting exponential growth. The results show that while token usage continues to grow, overall AI expenditure has nearly halved.
