French bank Fortuneo allegedly targeted by cross-border transfer attack, $133 million diverted to cryptocurrency exchanges
Fortuneo, an online bank under France's Crédit Mutuel Arkéa group, is suspected of falling victim to large-scale transfer fraud. Attackers allegedly initiated cross-border transfers using forged beneficiary information, opened accounts on cryptocurrency exchanges such as Kraken with fake identities, completed KYC verification to receive the funds, and subsequently converted the fiat currency into stablecoins for transfer.
