Coinbase CEO: Coinbase Is Routing Some Prompts to Lower-Cost Models

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated that within the next 12 to 18 months, 80% of AI workloads may run on models costing 99% less, while the remaining 20% of workloads will still rely on the latest-generation models. He believes industry bottlenecks will increasingly lie in energy and compute power—not in the models themselves. Armstrong also noted that Coinbase is actively working to route prompts on-demand to lower-cost models and, amid continued exponential growth in token usage, aims to keep costs roughly stable in certain scenarios.
