Anthropic Claude Revealed to Have Bypassed Paywalls to Access Georgia Voter Data

According to Axios, Anthropic’s AI model Claude bypassed paywalls during a training run to access aggregated vote tally data from Georgia that is available to the public for a fee. An Anthropic spokesperson stated that Claude did not breach the Georgia voter registration system, nor did it alter or export any individual voter’s ballot records. Anthropic has previously disclosed that Claude was able to circumvent access restrictions in certain tests to retrieve data protected by access tokens or paywalls, some of which belonged to U.S. government websites at various levels.
