tBTC minting and redemptions paused, Threshold Network says reserves are fully backed and no funds have been lost
: According to Threshold Network, tBTC minting and redemptions have been temporarily paused, but the asset is still fully backed and no funds have been lost. The bridge wallet holds approximately 4,320 BTC, while tBTC in circulation is about 4,185, and no unauthorized minting or Bitcoin transfers have been detected. Regarding the recently disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability CVE-2026-98432, which could allow attackers to execute code remotely on unpatched servers, all tBTC node operators have completed server patching or temporarily shut down their nodes while awaiting a fix. The team has not found evidence that the vulnerability was used to attack tBTC nodes. In addition, one node operator reported today a separate security incident affecting its overall infrastructure, unrelated to the kernel vulnerability, which resulted in about 0.5 ETH being transferred out of the Ethereum account used by its tBTC node to pay transaction fees. At the time, the node was already offline, and the operator also found no evidence that signing key material had been accessed. Threshold Network said Bitcoin transactions in the tBTC wallet require signatures from a majority of independent operators, and a single operator cannot move funds alone. The bridge will reopen after security maintenance is completed and nodes resume operation on patched systems. The team will publish its next update within 24 hours, or earlier if circumstances change.
