JPMorgan: Perpetual contracts cannot easily replace the traditional futures market

JPMorgan stated that its client research shows institutional interest in perpetual futures is limited beyond speculative trading.
The bank cited factors such as basis risk, lack of term structure and physical delivery, and clearing concerns, calling these the main obstacles to adopting perpetual futures. Offshore perpetual contract trading remains dominated by a few large players, presenting scalability issues.
