A Chinese national was extradited to the United States on suspicion of cryptocurrency fraud involving over $36.9 million.
According to court documents, the fraud syndicate contacted victims through social media, phone calls, and online dating platforms, using fake cryptocurrency trading websites to lure them into investing. Funds were subsequently transferred through U.S. shell companies, international bank accounts, and digital asset wallets. Over $36.9 million in victim funds were routed to an account at Deltec Bank in the Bahamas, converted into USDT, and transferred to cryptocurrency wallets in Cambodia, before ultimately reaching the operators of local scam compounds.
