German AfD secures a decisive victory in Saxony-Anhalt as the debate over Bitcoin tax exemption policies intensifies

Source: www.cryptopolitan.com Event types: Regulation/Compliance
According to Cryptopolitan, the far-right German Alternative for Germany (AfD) secured first place in the Saxony-Anhalt state election with a 43.8% vote share, winning 39 out of 83 seats, while the CDU's vote share plummeted to 17.2%. While this victory does not directly affect federal tax law, it will further strengthen the AfD's voice in Berlin's discussions on cryptocurrency tax reform. The AfD has consistently advocated for retaining the 12-month holding period tax exemption for Bitcoin and opposes classifying private mining and Lightning Network node operations as commercial taxable activities. In contrast, the German Federal Ministry of Finance plans to scrap this exemption, aiming to generate at least €1 billion in additional annual revenue.
