OpenAI Head of Data Centers Chris Malone Departs, With Over Ten Executive Departures This Year

Source: techcrunch.com
According to TechCrunch, Chris Malone, OpenAI’s former head of data center strategy, left the company last week. Malone previously spent nearly five years at Meta and over 10 years at Google before joining OpenAI in March 2025, holding the role for a short tenure. OpenAI stated that it recently restructured its infrastructure team to match the pace of business expansion; under the new arrangement, Malone will no longer report directly to President Greg Brockman, with the team now led by Vice President Sachin Katti. The data center team, construction and delivery, and engineering operations are currently overseen by Uday Ruddarraju, Brent Mayo, and Spas Lazarov, respectively.
