Microsoft Copilot begins using email and Teams chat history for personalization, and users can manually disable it.
According to Forbes, Microsoft is rolling out a Copilot personalization update for eligible Microsoft 365 business and education accounts. It leverages Outlook emails, Teams chat logs, and meeting transcripts to infer users' preferences, relationships, and work priorities in order to provide personalized services. Microsoft stated that the relevant data is confidential and will not be used to train its models. Users can navigate to the "Settings" — "Chat Settings" — "Personalization" section in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat to disable the "Chat History and Work Insights" setting. Once turned off, inferred memories will be deleted after 30 days; if the setting is re-enabled during this period, related memories may be restored.
