According to Bloomberg, Infineon Technologies AG announced it will invest 1.1 billion euros (approximately $1.2 billion) over eight years to expand its core power chip facility in Villach, Austria. The move aims to meet the growing demand for high-energy-efficiency semiconductors in AI data centers, electric vehicles, and robotics. The project will upgrade existing infrastructure to produce gallium nitride (GaN) power chips using 300-millimeter wafers. In a statement released on Tuesday, the company said mass production is expected to begin by the end of 2027, with expansion work continuing through 2034.
