According to Cryptopolitan, U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis told CNBC in an interview that large banks are attempting to block legislation aimed at clarifying cryptocurrency regulation because they cannot compete with the crypto industry. She emphasized that Bitcoin’s adoption is unstoppable: “This will become the financial system of the future.”
CoinShares tweeted that the cryptocurrency market saw a net outflow of $920 million this week. In the short term, macroeconomic headwinds continue to dominate: PPI data came in higher than expected, U.S.-Iran tensions pushed oil prices higher, and the Federal Reserve’s room for rate cuts is constrained—Bitcoin fell 1.4% this week. Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee passed the Clarity Act by a vote of 15–9, bringing long-term regulatory direction into sharper focus. CoinShares noted that the market is currently caught in a tug-of-war between short-term macro pressures and long-term regulatory tailwinds.
Chloe (@ChloeTalk1), a columnist for HTX DeepThink and researcher at HTX Research, analyzed that Kevin Warsh’s formal confirmation as Federal Reserve Chair on May 14—by an extremely narrow Senate vote—marks the completion of the most contentious leadership transition at the Fed in decades. Global risk assets, especially the crypto market, are now entering a new phase characterized by “high volatility + high uncertainty.” The biggest current market contradiction lies in the head-on clash between “political pressure for rate cuts” and “real-world inflationary pressures.” Trump continues to demand rapid rate cuts to stabilize the financial environment ahead of the midterm elections. Yet the latest U.S. PPI year-on-year reading stands at 6%, with core PPI at 5.2%—both significantly exceeding market expectations—indicating that energy price increases driven by the Iran war have begun spreading across broader goods and services. Warsh’s stance proves more complex than market expectations. Though viewed by the Trump camp as a candidate “more willing to cut rates,” his long-standing intellectual framework is fundamentally hawkish: he has repeatedly criticized the Fed for excessive market intervention and long opposed unlimited balance-sheet expansion. What he truly advocates is not traditional large-scale monetary easing, but rather a “low-interest-rate environment without QE”: shrinking the balance sheet, reducing market intervention, and simultaneously curbing inflation via AI-driven productivity gains and regulatory relaxation. This implies that the future U.S. dollar liquidity environment will likely differ sharply from the era of unlimited QE seen in 2020–2021.
The regulatory environment for the crypto industry continues to improve, but macro interest rate risks are dampening market sentiment. The US CLARITY Act has passed the Senate Banking Committee with a 15:9 vote, moving closer to a full Senate vote. The market expects that this bill could provide a clearer regulatory framework for tokenization, stablecoins, and smart contract platforms, potentially accelerating institutional capital inflow.Kavi Jain, Senior Research Associate at Bitwise, stated that the progress of the CLARITY Act is a significant milestone for US digital asset regulation. It is expected to particularly benefit smart contract platforms like Ethereum and Solana, and drive growth in institutional activities related to stablecoins, tokenized funds, and on-chain capital markets. However, the macro environment continues to exert pressure on the crypto market. US April inflation data came in higher than expected, driven primarily by rising energy prices. The market is now even beginning to price in the possibility of another rate hike by the Federal Reserve before April 2027. Meanwhile, the US 30-year Treasury yield has reached 5% for the first time since 2007, indicating growing market concern over long-term inflation risks. Analysts suggest that in a high-interest-rate environment, the appeal of high-risk assets, including Bitcoin, may be suppressed. (CoinDesk)
According to a post by a16z crypto, on May 14, the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs advanced the “Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act” (CLARITY) via a bipartisan vote—a historic step forward for U.S. crypto market structure legislation. The CLARITY Act aims to establish a clear regulatory framework for blockchain networks and digital assets. Its core provisions include: clarifying the jurisdictional boundaries between the SEC and the CFTC over crypto assets; regulating crypto exchange operations; protecting consumer rights; and providing a clear pathway for blockchain networks to operate compliantly in the United States. a16z notes that, over the past decade, the U.S. reliance on “regulation-by-enforcement instead of legislation” has not only distorted markets and stifled innovation but also spurred widespread regulatory arbitrage—driving numerous crypto projects overseas. The bill draws upon the 2024 FIT21 Act and the House version of the CLARITY Act introduced in 2025, further refining and strengthening those proposals. Currently, the drafts from the Senate Banking Committee and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry will be consolidated into a unified bill for a full Senate vote. Upon passage, it must still be approved by the House of Representatives and signed into law by the President to take effect. a16z compares this legislative milestone to the historic significance of the 1933 Securities Act and cites the explosive industry growth following the passage of the GENIUS stablecoin bill as precedent—arguing that once enacted, CLARITY will usher in a new wave of innovation across the U.S. crypto industry.
According to The Block, Myanmar’s military government has released a draft of the “Anti-Online Fraud Act,” which proposes imposing the death penalty on individuals who force others to engage in online fraud and life imprisonment for those operating fraud centers or committing cryptocurrency-related fraud. The draft also proposes establishing a dedicated committee to coordinate international efforts against fraud. Myanmar’s parliament is expected to review the bill in early June. Earlier, in September 2025, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on multiple entities in Myanmar and Cambodia suspected of involvement in cryptocurrency investment fraud. FBI data shows that cryptocurrency-related fraud losses in 2025 reached $11.4 billion—more than half of all internet crime losses.
in April 2026, two major DeFi attacks on Drift Protocol and Kelp DAO resulted in losses of nearly $600 million, triggering approximately $9 billion in capital outflows from protocols like Aave. TRM Labs investigator Nick Carlsen stated that a hacker group suspected to be linked to North Korea has allegedly used AI to assist in target selection and attack path design. Failsafe CEO Aneirin Flynn said that AI has compressed the time for discovering blockchain vulnerabilities from months to days or even hours. The report noted that Anthropic has not fully opened its AI model Mythos due to cybersecurity risks, claiming the model has the capability to discover large-scale zero-day vulnerabilities. Its research indicates that over half of blockchain attacks in 2025 could theoretically be completed autonomously by AI. (Bloomberg)
Odaily According to Trump's latest investment disclosure filing, he sold between $5 million and $25 million worth of Microsoft and Amazon stock this February, and repurchased shares in both companies in March. However, he failed to disclose these transactions within the statutory 45-day window, resulting in a $200 fine. This marks the third time this year he has been penalized for the same violation.Notably, Trump also purchased Nvidia stock on February 10th. Just days later, Nvidia announced a multi-year partnership agreement with Meta, causing its stock price to rise by approximately 2.5%. Furthermore, his purchases of Microsoft and Amazon stock preceded the Pentagon's announcement of contracts to deploy confidential computing network technology with both companies by several months. Trump has not sold any of his stock portfolio during his second term; his assets are held in a trust managed by his children, differing from the blind trust arrangements commonly adopted by previous presidents. Although members of both parties in Congress have repeatedly introduced legislation to prohibit officials from trading stocks while in office, progress on such legislation has stalled. According to Cointelegraph, privacy-focused messaging app Signal stated it may exit the Canadian market if required to comply with Canada’s proposed lawful access bill, Bill C-22. Udbhav Tiwari, Signal’s Vice President of Strategy and Global Affairs, said the bill could compel service providers to build technical surveillance capabilities and retain certain user metadata for up to one year—potentially undermining end-to-end encryption and increasing the risk of cyberattacks. The report notes that Bill C-22 has not yet entered into force and still requires parliamentary review and royal assent. In addition to Signal, VPN provider Windscribe has also indicated it may follow suit and withdraw from Canada if the bill is passed.
According to Money Today, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Korea announced that it will release detailed regulations and guidelines for tokenized securities in July 2026. The proposed framework would permit issuing fractional investment securities backed by a bundle of similar underlying assets and explore raising trading limits on over-the-counter (OTC) exchanges. Regulators will also draw on international precedents to develop a roadmap for tokenizing standardized securities—including equities, bonds, and money market funds—and advance testing and enhancement of infrastructure such as on-chain settlement. Korea’s tokenized securities regime was approved by the National Assembly in January this year and is scheduled to take effect on February 4, 2027.
Caixin reported that a private banking client was sentenced to six months’ immediate imprisonment and fined HK$500,000 for deliberately providing false information in a CRS declaration—the first criminal conviction in Hong Kong for violating CRS rules. CRS 2.0 refers collectively to the revised OECD Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF); its framework entered into force on 1 January 2026. Cryptocurrency exchanges, custodians, and related funds must fulfill KYC obligations and report information to tax authorities—systematically closing off avenues for concealing wealth using crypto assets.
