Bithumb Wins First Instance in First Lawsuit Over Mistakenly Sent BTC

According to South Korean media outlet Digital Asset, the Seoul Central District Court ruled on August 27 that Bithumb won an unjust enrichment restitution lawsuit against a user, ordering them to return the proceeds from the sale of mistakenly sent Bitcoin. The case involves approximately 194 million KRW and is one of four independent lawsuits filed by Bithumb following a February BTC mis-issuance incident this year; the amounts involved in the remaining cases are approximately 500 million KRW, 14.8 million KRW, and 5 million KRW, respectively. Previously, Bithumb had mistakenly distributed 620,000 BTC to users as part of an activity reward program and subsequently launched a recovery initiative. In March, the exchange reported to the National Assembly that nearly 99% of the remaining unrecovered 1,788 BTC had been successfully reclaimed. The first ruling, which affirms the exchange's right to recover proceeds from the sale of mistakenly issued assets, may increase the likelihood of Bithumb prevailing in the other three cases.

Frostsnap fixes two security issues, releases v0.4.0 with new firmware downgrade protection

Bitcoin multisig hardware wallet Frostsnap has released version v0.4.0, fixing two security issues with no user fund losses detected so far. First, a malicious signing request could mark a certain output as belonging to the user's wallet. The device did not verify this claim and would not display it on the confirmation screen, potentially allowing funds to be transferred to an address the user had never seen. Second, change addresses could fall outside the wallet's recovery scan range, causing funds to appear missing after backup restoration, although the relevant funds actually remained in the wallet. After the update, the app will prompt users to upgrade their device firmware and adds firmware downgrade protection. The Frostsnap team recommends that users update the app and firmware as soon as possible.

U.S. CFTC Warns Against Cryptocurrency ATM Scams, With Related Losses Exceeding $388 Million in 2025

According to an announcement by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), fraudsters are frequently impersonating government agencies, banks, investment firms, utility companies, or technical support personnel to lure victims into transferring funds via cryptocurrency ATMs, gift cards, unknown apps, or courier deliveries, exploiting the irreversible nature of transactions and the difficulty of tracing address ownership to carry out scams. Data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) shows that reported losses involving cryptocurrency ATMs in 2025 exceeded $388 million, up 58% from the previous year, with actual losses likely higher due to underreporting. The CFTC states that legitimate government agencies, financial institutions, and businesses will not require users to transfer assets via cryptocurrency ATMs, gift cards, or courier services. If parties urge action on the grounds that "your account or identity faces an urgent risk," demand secrecy, request remote access to devices, or instruct transfers to designated wallet addresses or via QR codes, these should be treated as high-risk red flags. Regulators advise users to halt transactions, independently verify information through official channels, and promptly report suspected fraud to the CFTC or the FBI IC3.

Michael Saylor Calls for Advancing "Bitcoin Reform," Supporting Institutional Expansion and Custody Options

According to Bitcoin.com, Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy (MSTR), introduced the concept of "Bitcoin Reformation" in a published article, arguing that Bitcoin should move beyond dogmatic interpretations of early tenets such as Satoshi Nakamoto, the whitepaper, and the "must self-custody" principle, and further integrate into banking, exchanges, corporate sectors, securities markets, and government systems. Saylor stated that while self-custody remains an essential right allowing holders to freely opt out of intermediary systems, it should not be imposed as a mandatory obligation on everyone; users can also evaluate institutional services based on criteria such as custody segregation, collateral, audits, insurance, and withdrawal rights. He believes that Bitcoin has gradually evolved from a peer-to-peer electronic cash system and "digital gold" into "digital capital" capable of supporting credit, equity, currency, and machine economies.

Morgan Stanley: Semtech Data Center Revenue Increases 39% Quarter-Over-Quarter; 1.6T Optical Chip Ramp Drives Target Price Upgrade to $195

According to Chaoxiang Research, Morgan Stanley's August 25 research report indicated that Semtech's Q2 data center revenue reached $100 million, up 39% quarter-over-quarter and 91% year-over-year, marking a record high. Growth was primarily driven by the sustained strength of the 800G FiberEdge and faster-than-expected qualification of the 1.6T FiberEdge. The 1.6T FiberEdge and CopperEdge are projected to account for over 50% of data center revenue in Q3. The Q3 data center revenue guidance reflects a 45% quarter-over-quarter increase and a 160% year-over-year increase, reaching $145 million. The LoRa business also recorded record revenue of $58 million in Q2, up 31% quarter-over-quarter and 58% year-over-year, with an additional 15% increase expected in Q3. Revenue forecasts for FY2027 and FY2028 have been raised to $1.529 billion and $1.895 billion, respectively, with gross margins upgraded to 56.9% and 62.7%, and EPS increased to $3.69 and $5.65. In Q4, ACC (active copper cable) is slated for mass deployment at major hyperscale customers, creating a synergistic effect alongside 800G and 1.6T solutions. The company has announced the divestiture of its module business, which is expected to drive structural improvements in gross margin and operating margin. As disclosed in this research report

StarkWare Completes First Quantum-Resistant Bitcoin Transaction, Says Protocol-Level Upgrades Still Needed

According to The Block, StarkWare announced it has successfully executed the first post-quantum Bitcoin transaction. Avihu Levy, Head of Applications, used a "signature grinding" approach to repeatedly generate millions of candidate signatures before the transaction entered the Bitcoin mempool, thereby avoiding the exposure of mathematical data related to public keys that could be exploited by future quantum computers to forge signatures. This method incurs significant computational costs, with a single transaction potentially taking several hours. Because the transaction format is unrecognized by standard Bitcoin nodes, it bypassed the public mempool and was submitted directly to miners for inclusion via MARA’s Slipstream service. StarkWare noted that while this technique can serve as a transitional safeguard, Bitcoin will still require protocol-level upgrades or a hard fork to systematically mitigate quantum computing threats.

Vulnerability fixed; Ledger Ethereum app users can obtain protection by updating device firmware and apps

Odaily News: Ledger Chief Technology Officer Charles Guillemet stated that a smart contract security company recently claimed to have discovered a vulnerability in the Ledger Ethereum app. The Ledger Ethereum app did previously contain a vulnerability related to certain Clear Signing processes, but it was identified by Ledger's in-house security research team, Donjon, using an AI-driven vulnerability research tool, and was fixed and deployed two weeks ago. The security company in question only contacted Ledger's bug bounty program after the fix had already been completed, failing to follow responsible disclosure procedures and without communicating with the bug bounty team, then published content implying that the issue remained unresolved. Guillemet stated that users who promptly update their Ledger device firmware, Ledger apps, and related software will receive the latest security fixes.
