Polymarket Accused of Paying Creators to Film Fake Betting Videos

Polymarket, a crypto prediction market platform, has been accused of paying dozens of creators, mostly of college age, to film betting videos on pages closely resembling its website, with some videos also showing fabricated profits. A review of 1,105 videos posted by 10 creators since December found that approximately 70% contained betting content, and the roughly $1.9 million in wagers displayed were not real transactions.  One video released in January showed college student George Makihara celebrating a $100,000 win from betting that Donald Trump would say "McDonald’s" that month. However, the footage was reportedly filmed two months early; Trump did not publicly utter the word in January of that year, and over 50 real accounts betting on the same event on Polymarket all incurred losses. Some creators entered trades on test pages, including the misspelled domain "poiymarket.com," which were allegedly built by Polymarket or used for engineering test environments.  In 118 videos, creators displayed nearly $900,000 in fictitious gains, while these bets would have resulted in losses of over $166,000 based on actual outcomes. Creators received approximately $2,000 to $3,000 per month and were instructed not to disclose the collaboration arrangement. Polymarket stated it is committed to maintaining accurate, fair, and transparent markets and plans to conduct a comprehensive audit of promotional content. (Decrypt)

BIT: Institutional fund flows turn net negative over the past month, buy-side recovery may be difficult

BIT's analysis today notes that over the past 30 days, the combined capital flows from stablecoins, Strategy, and Bitcoin ETFs have turned net negative, reaching a record high of $8 billion. This indicates that institutional investors are reducing risk exposure ahead of the summer season.Unlike the Q4 2025 period when inflows only slowed slightly, capital flows have now clearly shifted to net outflows. Without a significant positive catalyst (such as the Fed turning dovish), buy-side recovery could prove challenging. This suggests that Bitcoin's decline from $82,000 to $62,000 may have a greater impact than its previous correction from $102,000 to $82,000. Against a backdrop of limited upside potential, short volatility strategies may still present opportunities.

Ethereum’s New Proposal: Validators May Need to Contribute Up to 10% of Staking Rewards to Fund the Ecosystem

According to CoinDesk, the Ethereum Research Forum has released a new proposal introducing a “Validator Redirection Yield” mechanism, allowing validators to redirect 0% to 10% of their staking rewards toward funding ecosystem infrastructure and public goods. If a majority of validators support a specific redirection percentage, that percentage will become mandatory for all validators. Based on current staking levels, a 5% to 10% redirection would generate approximately 50,000 to 70,000 ETH annually for the ecosystem—roughly $120 million. The proposal aims to address Ethereum’s long-standing “free-rider” problem; however, it has also raised external concerns regarding risks such as coordinated validator manipulation of fund allocation and misaligned interests between staking operators and ETH holders. The proposal remains under discussion and has not yet entered the formal voting process.

Taiko bridge attack may result in losses up to $1.7 million

Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain Taiko has stated its chain state verification mechanism has been compromised, and the security assumptions of all bridges deployed on Taiko can no longer be relied upon. It urges users to immediately withdraw funds from the relevant bridges. Taiko says it is coordinating with partners to control the incident and has suspended the affected systems.Crypto security firm Blockaid stated that the root cause appears to be a flaw in the way Taiko's bridge validates source signals. Attackers can submit message proofs on Ethereum that lack legitimate proof from the Taiko chain, thereby registering and withdrawing fraudulent bridge messages. This leads to the unauthorized release of assets from the ERC20 treasury. Blockaid estimates at least $1 million was stolen, while Lookonchain and PeckShield believe the value of stolen assets could be as high as $1.7 million.PeckShield reported that the attacker has transferred approximately 1.99 million TAIKO tokens to MEXC, valued at around $189,000. Data from blockchain intelligence firm Arkham shows that the Taiko attacker's wallet holds approximately $1.5 million in assets, primarily in Ether. (Cointelegraph)
